Mr. Sloan came into the Flats district in 1914 from Missouri. A fellow by the name of Charlie Neuman came with him and he homesteaded in Middle Creek, where Gerry Heffernan now resides. John built a house and barn on his place, which was the S.E. 21-57-5, where Simpsons later lived. The house is still standing and several families have lived in it over the years. He broke up land and proved up his homestead. It was about 1919 or '20 when he left. He was not related to the Jim Sloan who lived on the S.W. 26-57-5.
