The homestead of John McCuen was the S.W. 28-57-5, and he filed on it in 1911. His former home was in Pennsylvania. He was a young bachelor and built a house and a few other farm buildings. Carpenter work was a job at which he excelled. He helped build the big Ferguson barn which stood for many years. The Fern Chapel school was another building that he helped build and it is still standing there, and very well too. His quarter had a good spring on it so there was no need to dig a well. He hired his breaking done and got most of his land fenced. Mr. McCuen was the first councillor for the municipal district of Lincoln. He left the district about 1923 or '24.
