Community News 1997

1997 was indeed a year to remember. After a long cold winter with lots of snow, everyone was ready for spring. Summer was pleasant, haying weather was excellent, harvest was completed and we were blessed with the best winter weather on record to end out our year.

We survived two elections provincial and federal. Princess Diana died in a terrible car crash and Ferguson Flats was referred to as ``Little Texas`` due to all the oil activity in the area. The main event of the year, however, was the 50th anniversary of the Ferguson Flats Ladies Club. On Mar. 5th the ladies gathered at the home of Olive Nelson where the very first meeting of the club was held exactly 50 years ago, on the very same date, Mar 5th 1947. Four of the original members were among the group who attended. To commemorate the occasion a collage of pictures depicting the club`s involvement in many events throughout the years was framed and put on display at the community center.
